PLANETS

Diptych, 2023
Cyanotype on Cotton fabric
160 × 190 cm (each)

Planets is a cyanotype textile diptych exploring the tension between creation and collapse. Created from the same abandoned glass plate, the two works present different states of a single world - one dense and active, the other quiet and nearly dissolved.

In the first work, Creation of the World, the glass plate was placed on the fabric while still carrying traces of dirt, dust, and material residue. These marks generated a layered image filled with movement, where shades of blue, white, and gold gather into an organic, planetary form. In the second work, Apocalypse, the same glass plate was cleaned before the exposure process, creating a sparse and open composition in which only a glowing outline remains, echoing the presence of what once existed.

Both works measure 160 × 190 cm and were created on a monumental scale in order to physically diminish the viewer standing before them. Through sunlight, water, and pigments, Shir Melech creates images that move between the microscopic and the cosmic, inviting the viewer into a space shaped by cycles of formation, erosion, and transformation.
